This album is an underrated classic. I like how well her vocals match with the nonsensical lyrics. Also, in order to properly enjoy it, the music must be listened at nighttime on full volume.

How is this not #1 for 84 or in top 5 for the 80's? Compared to their magnum opus, Treasure is more diffuse sonically. It feels like you are in a large room maybe a cave with crystals and there's more reverb on the vocals and some sound vocals sound close to the listener and some seem far away. Lots of echo on the drums to make it feel distant. Much more of a 3 dimensional ethereal space. More textbook ethereal than their other work although it strays occasionally, where Vegas to me is more shoegaze and borderlines on psychedelic dream pop.
But textures aside at the core it's the songwriting that is stellar. The composition of the music and the performances are amazing. The forward looking production and textural bliss doesn't hurt.

Crinimally underrated band and album.

Soaked in gallons of reverb and it's still great. Creates a very cool atmosphere

'Pandora' and 'Donimo' are unbelievable, a lot of these tracks fall just short of that label, and that's not an insult by any means. I'm glad I gave this one another chance. My issue on first listen was with the drum machine, particularly on 'Lorelei', but how can you deny the soul in every other performance? Now I call it the little drum machine that could.

Another lovely record from the Cocteau twins. Not quite as beautiful or brilliant as, Heaven or Las Vegas, would be, but still, Treasure, is their second best album.

Sounds that tickle my ears (in a good way), but I just didn't connect with. I imagine myself listening to this music in a fake Thai temple getting a Thai massage, with incense burning.

Totally reverse opinion of a reviewer below. Adore Heaven and Las Vegas, think this one is fairly meh. Though the two records have similar sounds, they appeal to a different sentiment, I think (this one's more mysterious and intricate, HLV is more sweeping and romantic)
My advice: if you're not a huge fan of this one, try out Heaven and Las Vegas, and vice versa.

Turbulent, romantic, and fiercely feminine, this album never fails to blow me away. I heard it for the first time as a teen reading Wuthering Heights and thought it was the perfect soundtrack for that book. And I stand by that. The sound is forceful, emotionally raw, and so very BIG. It is stylistically similar to gothic rock (powerful drums, jangly guitars, reverb reverb reverb) but much more sophisticated. This is probably my favourite album ever. No description can do it justice.
